About this course

Take the first step towards a career in the security industry. This programme equips you with the skills and qualification needed to work as a security officer in retail, construction sites, offices and public facilities.

Who it is for

  • Work as a security officer or security guard across the UK
  • Move into the private security industry with no previous experience
  • Cover retail, construction, corporate and public sector sites

What the course covers

  • Unit 1: Working within the private security industry, legislation, health and safety, emergency procedures
  • Unit 2: Working as a security officer, patrolling, access control, search procedures, incident reporting
  • Unit 3: Conflict management, risk assessment, de-escalation and communication strategies

Entry requirements

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must be able to read, write, speak and listen in English
  • You must hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate
  • This licence does not cover bars, nightclubs or arenas. For those venues you need the Door Supervisor course

What you come away with

You will receive the HABC Award for Working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry (Scotland) at SCQF Level 6. This meets the Security Industry Authority requirement for an SIA Security Guard Licence.
